Haven’t been to Rhodes much lately (especially now that IKEA is at Tempe!) so when the kind folks at 1606 Luis de Torres invited us to visit, we didn’t hesitate on taking them up on their offer!

Breakfast and Lunch at Bread and Circus – Alexandria, Sydney

Lunch table

Lunch table

A slightly belated post – but you get a double whammy in this one! I present to you breakfast and lunch eaten at Bread and Circus in Alexandria. Not on the same day, obviously, just so you don’t think I’m a fatty… Breakfast was eaten several weeks ago with the lovely L, while lunch was had with M just last week. M was visiting from Germany, so I must say we’ve had a very foodie week amongst other cool things. But first, onto breakfast…

Caramelised Lemony Banana Pancakes - banana, ricotta and biodynamic egg flourless pancake with maple syrup, lemon compound butter, caramelised banana and a strawberry basil salad ($19)

Lunch at In The Annex – Glebe/Forest Lodge, Sydney

Beef 2 Ways, Artichoke and Egg ($16)

Beef 2 Ways, Artichoke and Egg ($16)

We interrupt our UK food reports to bring you a quick update from In the Annex. After going to In The Annex for breakfast a while back, I really wanted to come back for lunch. To be honest, I looked at this review of their lunch and thought – wow, that food is being served in a cafe?!  Looks like fine-dining plating style to me! Their lunch menu is small, only 3 options as well as sandwiches, but you can also have anything off the breakfast menu so there’s actually plenty to choose from. I’ve been looking for a cafe that serves ‘food with a difference’ for a while, and while Fleetwood Macchiato didn’t really do it for me, I think I’ve found what I wanted here at In the Annex.

Baked egg with cream and cheese (£5.25)

As an avid cafe-goer in Sydney, and with breakfast not included at our hotel, one of the first issues S and I tackled upon arrival in Edinburgh was – which cool cafe are we going to have breakfast at?! After scouring Urbanspoon and various food blogs, we made a shortlist and picked The Edinburgh Larder Cafe, pretty much because we were running late that morning and The Larder is just a 10 minute walk from the hotel!

Californian Kick Start with poached eggs on toasted English muffin topped with hummus, guacamole, flat mushroom, grilled plum tomato and sweet chilli sauce (£7.95)

Sunday brunch has become somewhat of a tradition between T, S and I. After a girly sleepover we had originally endeavoured to go to Duck & Waffle – ridiculously popular right now, no doubt due in part to this blog review and the infamous cronut… However being in holiday-mode meant we didn’t book in time, so we resolved to go to The Drift – also located in Heron Tower on Bishopsgate, but on Level 1, accessed via a side entrance.
